Laboratory of Bioinorganic Chemistry

The LBC team has a strong experience in the application of POMs as catalysts for biologically relevant reactions. Recently to functionalization and post-functionalization of POM-based hybrids has been initiated, and the use of POMs for the formation of supramolecular assemblies and materials is also being pursued. We are particularly interested in their assembly with proteins and molecules that mimic protein environment. These subjects have relevance with several societal issues: (i) development of environmentally friendly and atom economical catalysts; (ii) alternative materials: new classes of materials with potential as encapsulators for therapeutic drugs; (iii) health: POMs as artificial enzymes in proteomics applications.
